The original Porsche-developed tank, the Kampfpanzer Leopard 1, is a distinctive vehicle manufactured between 1957 and 1965. Hailing from Didam, Netherlands and currently residing in a private collection, this main battle tank was produced by Krauss-Maffei under license from Porta Westfalica, Germany. It stands out as one of the few tanks developed in the 20th century to utilize a powerpack derived from a Porsche sports car engine, specifically the Type 537 motor initially used in the Type 552 Apache. This unique adaptation is reflected in its combat weight of around 47 metric tonnes and overall dimensions, yet it retains several characteristic features seen across its family, such as its distinctive glacis plate sloping upward at a 60-degree angle for effective shielding against armor-piercing rounds.
