The 1992 Maxton Rollerskate is a distinctive, third and final prototype vehicle from Colorado-based Maxton, founded by vintage racer Bob Sutherland. This unique car, originally delivered in component form to the PBS TV series MotorWeek for assembly, features an American-style design with its sleek, low-slung body and bold lines. Built for performance, it boasts a mid-engine layout powered by a 302 cubic inch V8 engine from Ford, producing around 250 horsepower. Distinguishing characteristics include its fiberglass-bodied chassis with integrated floor pan, double wishbone suspension front and rear, four-wheel disc brakes, and custom-made Borrego aluminum wheels wrapped in low-profile tires for enhanced grip. The Maxton emphasizes comfort inside the driver-focused cockpit, complete with a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, adjustable seats upholstered in gray cloth, and an array of well-placed gauges ensuring a rewarding driving experience.
