In 1985, Toyota manufactured an unreplicated prototype known as the Sports 800. Unlike conventional Toyotas of its time, this sleek two-seater sports car was designed as a personal project by the late Takumi Yoshioka and showcases his distinctive Japanese-European fusion style with its long hood, wide flanks, and low slung, wedge-shaped body. The Sports 800's performance is powered by a mid-mounted 1.6-litre inline-four engine from Toyota's Corolla GT-S, producing around 125 horsepower at 7600 RPM, with the power transmitted through a five-speed manual transmission connected via a propshaft to the front wheels, achieving a top speed of approximately 132 mph
